Travelling, one of the most essential and basic needs of human beings. They even say Travel is the best investment in yourself. Ever since the nomadic culture commenced, more and more entrepreneurs have plunged into travelling to their dream destinations while working on a regular basis. Be it Education, Business or Holidays to escape from the regular chores, travelling plays a vital role for all of us.

But, have you ever encountered any strange or weird law of a new place you visited, and wondered if this is for real? Or you’ve done something you, never in your wildest dream would have imagined, would be a blunder in a country you visited for the first time?

Well, if you’re planning or will ever visit any of the countries mentioned below, it would be great if you already knew some of their bizarre rules and regulations before visiting them. Or even if you’re reading it out of curiosity, I bet it’s gonna be a captivating read.

Here are some sought-after countries and their outlandish laws to acknowledge:

Switzerland

  • You will attract a fine, if you flush your toilet after 10 p.m. in an apartment building. The unfinished business after 10 might get you into big trouble because they’re quite serious about this.
  • Naked Hiking is also illegal anywhere in Switzerland. Naked eyes are enough to witness the beauty of Swiss Alps anyway.

Australia

  • Never ever disturb an ongoing ceremony in Australia, whether it’s a wedding or a funeral, if you don’t want to get banned from all social events. By the same token, you will also invite a fine of just $10,000 and 2 years of jail.
  • Rewarding perpetrators is not allowed in Australia. For instance, if someone stole your valuable property, and returned them to you. You can’t just reward them for their kind gesture, because you will be fined. Yes, and the fine is $500 to be exact.
  • You cannot fly a kite or play a game at public places in Victoria, if it happens to annoy someone else. Although, they probably wouldn’t mind.
  • It is illegal to kill, hurt or even capture a homing pigeon in Australia. 
  • No one can possess more than 50kg of potatoes as it is strictly prohibited in West Australia.
  • Don’t change a light bulb if you aren’t a licensed electrician, you will be fined.

Singapore

Chewing gum is banned in Singapore
  • Chewing gum is strictly prohibited in Singapore. This law was enforced in order to keep public places clean. Although nicotine gums are allowed as an exception.
  • Annoying others with musical instruments or even singing in a public place may attract you a fine of $1000 or maybe 3 months of prison.

Japan

  • Codeine and any medicine with codeine is strictly banned in Japan. Keep that in mind while packing your bags, you can’t take your Vicks if you don’t want to get deported.
  • It is prohibited to dance in the dark after midnight in Japan.

Germany

Its illegal to run out of gas on German highways

If you run out of gas on German Autobahn, you will be heavily fined for that. And you can’t even walk to the gas station as it is considered dangerous and will get an additional fine on your existing fine. They believe everyone is capable of filling gas in their automobiles and if anyone runs out of gas, it is their fault.

France

  • Men can only wear speedos wherever a swimsuit is required. Somehow it is concerned with the cleanliness in the water.
  • Although French is famous for its kissing, you can’t kiss on a train, or even at railway stations if your train is about to arrive.
  • You can’t drive with an Ashtray in your car as they are considered as a lethal weapon.

UAE

Some of the caribbean countries won’t allow you to wear camouflage as they are supposed to be worn by military personnel only. So better leave your camos back home if you’re going to Jamaica, Barbados, St. Vincent, Antigua, St. Lucia or Barbuda.

Russia

  • Laced undergarments are prohibited to wear in Russia. For health and safety reasons, a Rule in 2014 was made in Russia as well as Kazakhstan and Belarus for restricting people from wearing lacy undies beneath clothes.
  • You can not drive your car or any car that is dirty. Perhaps, they will catch you riding dirty.

Caribbean countries

Some of the Caribbean countries won’t allow you to wear camouflage as they are supposed to be worn by military personnel only. So better leave your camos back home if you’re going to Jamaica, Barbados, St. Vincent, Antigua, St. Lucia or Barbuda.

United Kingdom

  • Kissing at railway stations is not permitted in England. You can see them No Kissing signs everywhere in order to reduce the cause of delays for commuters.
  • You can’t destroy a bank note or even write upon them. Not just notes, but this rule applies for coins as well, and there is a special kind of license granted from the treasury to do so.
  • Drink all the scotch you want while you’re in Scotland, but you can not ride on any cattle or horse etc. while you’re drunk. You can’t even carry a loaded firearm when you’re drunk for obvious safety reasons.

Greece

  • Wearing stilettos or high heels are strictly prohibited at the Acropolis. In order to protect 2500 years old ruins from damage, this rule was implemented in 2009.
  • Mooning in public is not allowed in Greece as it is considered to be provocative and disrespectful.

Sudan

  • There is a compulsory dress code for women in Sudan and they always have to keep their head covered in public.
  • Instead of taking action against the rapist, they may whip the victim in public. 

Spain

  • While in Barcelona, you can’t be shirtless in public places unless you are at some beach or a swimming pool. Roaming half naked on streets may cost you upto €260 according to the rule passed in 2011.
  • Building sand castles is also banned in Spain, and you may get heavily fined for this. So you better watch your children as this rule applies to them as well and of course you’re paying the fine.

Portugal

It’s illegal to pee in the ocean in order to maintain the cleanliness of water. Is that possible to know? Can’t say much, but you better use the restrooms.

Bolivia

Only one glass of wine can be served to married ladies in a public place so that they don’t start flirting around. Quite sexist, isn’t it?

Canada

  • Climbing a tree is not allowed in Ontario even if you are just hiking through a jungle.
  • Killing Bigfoot in British Columbia will attract you a fine of upto $250,000. Although no one has ever captured any proof of Bigfoot’s existence, still a rule is a rule.
  • You can’t even pay with too many coins in Canada because it is illegal. Their currency act says if you’re paying someone more than $10, you can’t pay them with more than one coin.

United States

  • Billboard advertising is prohibited in the state of Hawaii unless it’s your own property. So enjoy the view all you can without ruining it with ads.
  • Tarot cards, palm reading, face reading or any kind of fortune telling is strictly banned in the state of Maryland.
  • It’s also illegal to bring a lion to cinemas in Maryland. You better leave them in your backyard.
  • A game of Bingo should never last more than 5 hours in the US.
  • Calling women by any means with unchaste names is strictly prohibited in Oklahoma.
  • You can’t kiss a woman in Nevada if you have grown a moustache. It’s strictly prohibited.
  • Eating people is banned in Idaho, and you can be imprisoned for 14 years for this cannibalism.
  • Counting years? You can get sentenced for 25 years if you’re found cutting a cactus plant in Arizona.
  • Men can’t wear strapless gowns in Florida. Oops!
  • Honking is a must while overtaking in New Jersey. Yes, it’s a law!
  • Couples sharing a room in any hotel, whether married or not, will be considered legally married in North Carolina, according to their marriage laws.

South Africa

  • Fighting with a bear is illegal in South Africa, so better avoid the fight. Not kidding, I mean it!
  • Young adults wearing bathing suits shall maintain a distance of at least 12 inches while sitting together.

Italy

  • Frowning in public is illegal in Milan, although it applies to their citizens only.
  • Men can’t wear a skirt in public as it is considered a serious issue and can invite imprisonment.
  • Don’t ever think about feeding pigeons in Venice as it is strictly banned there, mainly at St. Mark’s Square.
  • Kissing in cars is banned in Eboli.

Thailand

  • Never destroy or step on Thailand’s currency as it is considered an insult for the royals printed upon them. Same rule is there in Turkey as well.
  • You can’t drive in Thailand without wearing a shirt.
  • Also, you can’t go outside without wearing underwear as it is a compulsion over there.
  • E-cigarettes and Vaporizers are strictly banned in Thailand. You can be sentenced for 10 years even if they found a refill of a vape.

Poland

You can’t wear Winnie the Pooh tee-shirt or display this particular cartoon character by any means in Poland.

Egypt

  • It’s illegal for men to belly dance in Egypt. Let’s just not talk more about it.
  • The rainbow flag is also banned in this country.
  • Sharing a room with an Egyptian of opposite sex is illegal unless you are married to them.

Sri Lanka

  • Turning back on Buddha’s statue while taking a selfie is a punishable offence, anywhere in Sri Lanka. Don’t even wear a tattoo of Buddha or just cover it up as they consider it disrespectful, you may end up behind bars for the same.
  • Homosexuality is also illegal in Sri Lanka, since the law considers same sex relations against the order of nature. LGBTQ? No homo..!

Nowadays, our desperation to travel has reached tremendous heights like never before. Everybody is waiting to set free from this relentless isolation and we can only hope that everything gets back to normal. No wonder many rules are going to get changed according to the NWO, but many of the laws stated above are going to stay for different reasons. Perhaps, they make all the difference when we travel from country to country, which eventually expand our visions and upgrade our ratifications toward life.
